Gillian Anthony MA (Sussex), LRAD, has been a practising teacher of classical ballet since
1966 and is a Graded and Vocational Graded Examiner of the Royal
Academy of Dance for over 30 years.
She has a wide range of teaching experience
ranging from young children through to professionals, including the
devising and development of teacher training programmes.
Her professional career has included periods as a teacher with Ballet Dalal Achcar, Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil, for 6 years, Principal of the Hammond School of
Dance, Chester, England, between 1983 and 1988, also Chairwoman
of the Board of Examiners, Royal Academy of Dance for
five years.
She is a guest teacher on
international courses and summer schools and has been a member of the faculty at Bolzano Danza for 14 years. Gillian
Anthony has lived and taught in England, Brazil, France,
Italy, Germany, and currently spends part of the year in Portugal. She
speaks Portuguese and also has a working knowledge of French, Italian
and German.
She is a founder member of the Associação da Dança Ibérica, a
non-profit making association based in Portugal and dedicated to
offering students of classical ballet opportunities to further their
studies and experience with leading international teachers. Gillian
was one of the organisers for the first event for this Association,Dance Algarve 2008 ! which took place in
Lagos, Algarve, Portugal over Easter 2008. It brought international
faculty including Francesca Filpi, Kenn Burke and John Mowat to Lagos
with over 120 students from throughout Portugal, Germany, the UK and Italy and South Africa."
Gillian Anthony
believes that classical ballet should be taught and enjoyed by people
of all ages and all physiques.
She prefers to work with experienced dance
pianists and uses music as the main incentive for inspiring, motivating
and developing movement skills.
She sees classical ballet as the perfect dance
training and education to strengthen and enhance technique, musicality
and performance for students specialising in all dance disciplines.
